First Visit

  1. Orientation to the practice
  2. Discuss prenatal vitamins + omega-3 fatty acids
  3. Discuss prenatal laboratory testing
  4. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  5. History + physical exam + pap if needed
  6. Ultrasound
  7. Assign due date
  8. Meet with office manager

About 12 weeks (or second visit)

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine

About 16 weeks

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Discuss quad screen (optional)
  4. Sign up for childbirth education classes (28-32 weeks)

About 20 weeks

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Ultrasound performed, may determine fetal sex if desired

About 24 weeks

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Order one-hour glucose test (fasting is not necessary)

About 28 weeks (visit every week)

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. A Rhogam shot is given to patients who have Rh-negative blood type

About 30 weeks

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Discuss glucose test results

About 32-36 weeks

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine

About 36 weeks (visit every week)

3d/4d

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Cervix exam is usually done
  4. Check for the baby’s position
  5. Group B strep culture of the vagina
  6. Discuss labor and delivery

About 37-39 weeks

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. A cervical examination may be done

About 40 weeks

  1. Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
  2. Check weight, blood pressure, and urine
  3. Non stress test + amniotic fluid check
  4. Cervical examination
  5. Discuss management plan for induction
